The future of textiles, workwear, and smart protection
In a world where working conditions, sustainability, and technology are increasingly converging, workwear is also transforming from purely functional to personal, moving smartly with the wearer.
We are constantly innovating. So that our workwear not only protects, but is also as comfortable as possible, can measure data, suits the wearer’s real needs, meets regulatory requirements, and is environmentally conscious. In this blog article, we dive into the most important developments and innovations of 2026.
Circular textile solutions become the norm
Governments are fully committed to the circular economy. In the textile sector, we see this translated into stricter requirements for reusability, recycling, and traceability of materials. For you, this means workwear that does not end up in a landfill, but is part of a closed chain. Think of workwear made from recycled polyester, reclaimed cotton, or workwear designed with disassembly and reuse in mind.
At VH, we are taking the lead in this area. Together with VP Textile and Kaneka, we are one of the first to produce fully recycled, inherently flame-retardant workwear from chemically recycled fashion acrylic. An innovation that was not possible until now.
We are also looking at applications for chemically recycled polyester and chemically recycled cotton, as these are more sustainable than virgin polyester or cotton. Where possible, we also use soluble yarns to ensure that worn workwear can be dismantled much more easily for recycling. All these innovations ensure that no concessions are made in terms of the performance of the clothing or the safety of the material.
Innovative technologies: smart workwear for extra safety
The rise of smart workwear continues to grow. Think of garments with sensors that monitor health or safety, smart vests that detect dangerous situations, or shoes that measure body posture. These technological innovations contribute to higher safety and increased productivity.
At VH, we develop solutions that bring technology and workwear together. We work with partners on smart applications such as protective clothing that not only meets standards but also features smart elements for monitoring or comfort. This enables us to offer employees and employers future-oriented safety.
Comfort and ergonomics: workwear that fits comfortably all day long
Employees need to feel comfortable in order to perform at their best. By 2026, ergonomically designed workwear will no longer be a luxury, but a basic requirement. Think of breathable fabrics, stretch materials, and moisture-regulating technologies. Comfort is crucial, especially in protective clothing, where extra layers often lead to extra weight or heat.
We use the latest technologies and only the best materials. We design custom-made clothing so that we always know that our customers’ clothing is comfortable all day long, because it has been extensively tested and personalized.
An example of this is our Millennia Thor line. This collection protects the wearer according to nine safety standards and combines this with exceptional comfort. Thanks to GORE-TEX technology, the jacket is lightweight, breathable, and highly water-repellent, ideal for changing weather conditions and up to 20 percent lighter than other clothing with a similar level of protection, category 3.
